Jobs For Teens - Tips You'll Want and Need

Teens and jobs... there are so many opportunities but the balance between school, sports, clubs and work is always tough. Fortunately there are plenty of opportunities that are extremely flexible that would fit the crazy schedule of a teen.

It's important to know the labor laws in your specific state as they may vary. Laws may even vary by the type of employment. You can expect to find out that you can not get a job with a bonafide employer unless you are at least 14. Some minor research will give you the latest details on the rules and regulations in your state.

Typically a teen that is 14 or 15 years old can only work 3 hours a day with a maximum of 18 for the week. That's plenty as school is paramount to a successful career and any more hours would interfere.

In summer and during extended breaks, the hours would expand but never more than a 40 hour week with an 8 hour per day cap. A teen of this age can also expect a curfew of sorts with the latest working hours to be 9:00 PM local time.

Employment Documents

Expect to be able to prove your age and there are several ways to do that; a birth certificate will obviously prove that you are of legal age to work and the school that the teen works will also be able to provide documentation that would satisfy an employer.
It's also a great idea to speak with the guidance office in the school in order to get some ideas of the little nuances that might be required in your local area. You should also go to the department of labor in your state to get specifics so you are not blind sided when you apply for these available jobs for teens.

Types of jobs for teens

Very few people want to work but it is a necessary evil so find something that is interesting as well as fits your schedule. If you are working at a place that you hate, it will show in your attitude and work ethic. Jobs at Walmart or Jobs at Sears are generally pretty good for a teen as well as jobs at Kohl's or jobs at Chick-fil-A as most of those enterprises are teen friendly and flexible in their hours.

So, good luck in your job search and remember that many employers have enjoyable jobs for teens.
